About
Daughters of the Corner

Daughters of the Corner (DOTC) is a survivor-led nonprofit committed to prevention, awareness, and freedom from exploitation. Our mission is “Providing education for prevention and freedom from active exploitation.”

This work began in 2021 after our founder, Lauren Moquette, exited “the game” and escaped human trafficking. From the beginning, she carried a passion to return to the very places where she was once exploited to help empower others toward freedom. Over time, that passion expanded into a deeper focus on prevention, with a heart to be proactive, not just reactive, in protecting youth and educating communities.

DOTC was officially registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in New York State in March 2025, and continues to grow through survivor-led consulting, social media outreach and advocacy, and education and awareness initiatives.

Consulting

DOTC provides survivor-led consulting for agencies, nonprofits, churches, and community programs seeking trauma-informed, prevention-focused guidance. We’ve partnered with organizations and systems across NYC, including the Brooklyn DA’s Office, the FBI, NYPD, and the Mayor’s Office, along with other well-known anti-trafficking organizations, to strengthen outreach, training, and survivor-centered response.

Social Media Outreach & Advocacy

With the increase of digital exploitation and online grooming through social media, DOTC uses online platforms to educate, warn, and empower. For over 5 years, we’ve been doing outreach and advocacy by sharing lived experience, safety awareness, prevention messaging, and resources that help people recognize red flags before exploitation escalates.

Education & Awareness

DOTC delivers survivor-led education through presentations, community workshops, and digital resources that break down the realities of trafficking beyond the stereotypes. This includes highlighting From Her Perspective: The Language of Exploitation (Glossary) and the DOTC Podcast, where survivors share their experiences to bring awareness to the different facets of human trafficking and provide a platform for their voices to be heard.

Growing up all Lauren ever wanted was love. Her idea of what love should have been, was formed through years of abandonment, neglect, and abuse of every kind. This led her into extreme independence for a sense of security. Eventually, someone came along who promised to give her and be everything she ever wanted, but it was all a part of the game. When he could no longer maintain the promises he made her, she came to the realization that grasping for prizes in the game of life was the opposite direction that she should have been going. Follow her through her tumultuous ups and downs trying to survive a game that none of us are bound to win. This is a story of how a girl going through life on the cusp of culture and Christianity got her greatest win, coming face to face with the ultimate choice: God’s way or the world’s way.

From Her Perspective: The Language of Exploitation is a survivor-led digital dictionary created to help people understand the hidden language often used in grooming, coercion, trafficking, and commercial sexual exploitation.

This resource breaks down commonly used terms and phrases in a clear, trauma-informed way, explaining not just what the words mean, but what they often signal in real life. It’s designed to support prevention, awareness, and intervention by giving readers the context that’s usually missing from surface-level definitions.

Whether you’re a young person trying to make sense of what you’re seeing, a parent or caregiver looking for clarity, or a professional working in advocacy, social services, education, law enforcement, or ministry, this guide helps translate the language of exploitation through the lens that matters most: the lived experience of survivor
